Playwriting Course

Description

Overview:
This course is a six-week foundational play writing workshop designed to guide participants through the essential elements of dramatic writing. Meeting once a week for 2 hours in the evening, this hands-on course is ideal for beginning writers as well as artists from other disciplines looking to explore play writing for the first time. Some writing will be expected outside of the workshop time.

This workshop is open to adults and teens (16+) at all levels of writing experience. No prior play writing experience is necessary.

Workshop Goals:
By the end of the workshop series, each participant will have created a polished draft of a one-act play. Along the way, they will gain practical skills in structure, character development, dramatic action, dialogue, conflict, and creativity.

Outcome:

Participants will leave the workshop with a completed one-act play, a solid grasp of foundational play writing skills, and the confidence to continue creating original work independently.

Instructor Bio:
Scott Doughty is a director, playwright, and arts leader with over 20 years of experience as a script developer. He currently serves as the Artistic Director of Spokane Playwrights Laboratory, where he is dedicated to supporting new work and nurturing regional talent.
